The Turks and Caicos Islands, which form part of the British overseas territory in the very south of the Atlantic Ocean, are extremely appealing to tourists.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are located east of Cuba, north of the Dominican Republic, and are part of the United Kingdom. The islands attract travelers from all around the world due to their proximity to northern European cities.
Why should You Visit the Turks and Caicos Islands?
Living in the Caribbean, there are many attractions that can be given, but among them, it is hard to find a place quite like the Turks and Caicos. The islands have beautiful white-sand beaches with perfect turquoise water. Much of their surface area consists of flat reef surfaces which are just below sea level.
Islands in this group are Pine Cay, North Caicos, South Caicos, Providenciales (the largest island), Grand Turk …
Conch culture began here almost 200 years ago when people came to these places from Bermuda searching for new homes. At this point, they brought conchs out of boats by diving, because at that time the islands were uninhabited.
Currently, conch fritters are one of the favorite dishes from these lands. In addition, bars and cafes in these regions offer a wide range of other delicacies.
Provisional capital is located on Providenciales Island. In total, there are 31 inhabited villages over the island with a population of more than 40,000 people. If you’re here, you can visit Cockburn Harbour – the largest natural harbor in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Additionally, this region attracts many tourists because it has a luxury resort that was built right into a cliff by the sea.
Meridian Club Resort & Spa is an excellent place where tourists have access to 13 single-story houses which are designed in the form of luxurious suites. Inside these houses, there is a modernly equipped kitchen and also a private swimming pool. The bathroom has an oversized bathtub with stunning views.
There are several bars that offer cocktails made with local products like honey rum, creative mixes, caipirinhas, or exotic drinks. Favorite dishes include conch fritters, fresh fish dishes, chicken wings with mango sauce, or sweet potato fries with chili mayonnaise.
Conch Shell Blowing Festival is one of the most popular events held on the island. On this occasion, locals show their skills by creating beautiful sand sculptures on the sand.
Bathsheba is another popular tourist attraction. Its beauty lies in the fact that it has long stretches of white sand. It is also important to mention that since these beaches are not cleared, they are less crowded than other places on the island.
The Turks and Caicos Islands attract more and more tourists every year, especially after the construction of an international airport which allows you to fly directly from London Heathrow. If you have time, I highly recommend visiting this place because even if your stay is short, there are so many sights here that will definitely offer true delight!
The total area of the entire archipelago is about 430 km2, and about 31,000 inhabitants live on the islands. These are mostly descendants of people from Africa, who were previously brought to these islands as labor. Of course, there are Britons among the inhabitants, but also Americans, French, and Canadians, the most.
The Turks Islands are considered to be the most beautiful in the archipelago. The climate in these regions is very similar to that of southern Spain because it gets hot here in summer, but not too hot.
There is nothing special about Grand Turk which makes this island unique, but if you visit Providenciales Island, then it is worth knowing that this place has much more to offer than the rest of the islands.
For example, I would like you to mention Chalk Sound National Park located on North Caicos Island (this island belongs to Turks and Caicos). Of course, there are lots of other parks where tourists can find exotic species of plants or animals, but Chalk looks incredible! When entering this place, you will literally feel the embrace of long-lost nature! There are beautifully carved valleys, hills covered with lush vegetation, and bays that are surrounded by white sand.
One of the most popular attractions is the Chalk Sound Bridge which is truly attractive because people can literally walk around on the water! If you visit Providenciales Island during the summer period, I recommend visiting this place as soon as possible because it gets really hot here… Unbelievable heat under a scorching sun! However, these lands have something else to offer besides natural beauty… delicious food!
The Turks and Caicos Islands are famous for their cuisine, and I highly recommend trying the local specialties if you visit these places. Everything here is made from fresh fish, sea turtle meat, or pork that comes from local farms. You can find a large number of refreshing fruit cocktails with rum which is a must-try when visiting this place!
Of course, you should try traditional dishes such as conch fritters, chicken wings with mango sauce, stuffed crabs, lobster salad, delicious pumpkin soup, and snapper fish.
I am sure that your taste buds will get excited about all these delicacies! And things get even better because there is also food you eat with your hands! In other words, no cutlery is needed… Just bring your appetite and you will not be disappointed!
As soon as I got on the island, I was told about an amazing restaurant called ” Salt Cay Nippers” where one can try traditional food in a completely different way… right atop the sea! You might think that this is dangerous or something, but it’s actually very safe. The tables are located on special platforms that are surrounded by water on three sides of land, so your feet are always under you… Just don’t move too much because if you do, then the platform may even come out of the water! Well, what do you think about this unusual restaurant?
I bet you would like to visit the Turks and Caicos Islands as soon as possible and try local food and drinks! This is certainly one of the most exciting places where you can visit with your friends or family, so what are you still waiting for? Pack your bags and go there now!
They most certainly were heard all around the world after Hurricane Hanna destroyed these islands in September 2008.
Because the hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, visitors frequently avoid visiting during that time.
The Turks and Caicos have roughly the same amount of rain as other Caribbean islands, but because they have around 350 sunny days a year and only minor rainfall, their water supply is somewhat fragile.
That is why all visitors are invited to behave responsibly and take care of water consumption. However, that is only a small thing, compared to everything that these islands offer.
These islands are known for their turquoise blue sea, long sandy beaches, and the serenity that everyone desires.
That is why it’s no surprise that the well-known singer Prince owned a home in this region, or that David and Victoria Beckham celebrated New Year’s Eve on these islands.
Here, away from the lights and noise of the city, they may find serenity. They all need it badly. The island is home to many world-famous celebrities, which is no surprise given its location on a picture-perfect beach with stunning views of Mount Edgecumbe’s lush rainforest.
How to get to the island?
There are several flights from Toronto to the Turks and Caicos every day, with British Airways providing service on Thursdays and Saturdays from London, as well as two flights daily from Miami and just one flight daily from Dallas.
Every day, two airlines depart from New York, as well as flights from Boston and Atlanta in Massachusetts, Florida, and Montreal.
Turks and Caicos may be called the ultimate tropical escape.
A trip here will only cost you around two thousand dollars. The rates are also very affordable when compared to other islands in the Caribbean, which makes the Turks and Caicos Islands an ideal destination for budget travelers.
On top of that, this island has some of the most luxurious accommodations I have ever seen. If you wish to travel somewhere really special, then Turks and Caicos should be your next destination!
